  • Facing each other yet not making eye contact. A natural moment of connectedness and detachment. In the next frame, the woman at the back was gone and the woman in the foreground covered her face with the bouquet. Not so interesting. Good moments are always so fleeting...

  • Plum blossom is one of my favorite flowers. Too bad these aren't real, but I still like the composition.

The flowers were in shadows so I popped them with a bit of flash. Kinda flat, I know. I did have the sync cord in my bag to go off-camera, but was too lazy to worry about hand-holding my flash in that insane crowd...

  • A friend pointed out that in this shot someone was taking a photo of the scene with me in it at the same time. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see how I have unintentionally adorned another photographer’s image?

I am once again reminded of a Chinese poem that I love:

斷章

你站在橋上看風景,
看風景的人在樓上看你。
明月裝飾了你的窗子,
你裝飾了別人的夢。

-- 卞之琳

Rough translation:

Fragment

You are standing on a bridge enjoying the scenery
Someone on a balcony is watching you while taking in the view
The bright moon adorns your window
You decorates someone else’s dream
